A Mother's Words Can Have Healing Powers
It is the acknowledgement that
many of us secretly,
desperately want
never to receive.
They are the words that those
who struggle as adults with childhood traumas
long to hear.
It is the confirmation that decisions
made by our childselves for protection
were heroic.
They are the words
I was blessed to hear
from the very person
many of us wait for in vain...
"Don't be so hard on yourself. Your childhood was much harder than mine.It was not God that let things happen to you. It was your parents that let things happen to you."
...said my mother.

It speaks volumes about your mother that she talked to you about this--acknowledged and took responsibility. As I've said already, I have more respect for her because of it --it makes me a lot more open to her.
