Kindred Spirit

Thunder rolls in the distance.
Lightening flashes casting shadow and light.
A desk lamp radiates a soft glow.
Her sultry, soulful voice slides through
the air accentuating the atmosphere.

In my room,
in these moments
of inner quietude,
my thoughts turn to recent memories
of you and what you have come to represent.
Knowing you is a confirmation that
honesty,
acceptance,
empathy,
humor,
generosity,
love,
truthfulness,
forthrightness,
frank conversation
is not too much to expect.

My housemate prepares to sleep for the night.
The hall is dark save for the soft light
spilling into the darkness through my open door.
A song of dreams, rainbows, hope for a wonderful world
winds its way around photos, papers, and books.

I am reminded of the journey
towards recognizing my goodness.
Only as I have come to see my own nobility
have I been able to expect nothing less
than the noblest desires and hopes.
Through the cleansing of my own heart
I have been able to see yours
and have found a kindred spirit.

Thunder rolls in the distance.
Lightening flashes casting shadow and light.
A desk lamp radiates a soft glow.
Her sultry, soulful voice slides through
the air accentuating the atmosphere.

Wisdoms I Am Learning

To find yourself, look no further than the universe folded within you.
In that vastness lays all that you potentially possess.
Wrap yourself in the beauty the splendor that is you.

I have known the pain of
loving another too much
while loving myself too little.
I have known grief so deep
I have wept tears copiously
my head pressed to the floor.
I have lived a moment,
that I am sad to say,
I would have gladly become one
with the floor beneath me
to be trod under the feet of others.
I have searched in vain
comparing myself others
attempting to discover
how I fit in the world.

Be courageous
Be brave
Be unrestrained in mining
the precious gems that lay within you.
Be no body’s darling
waiting prettily
to be seen
to be heard
to speak.
Rather be a force of light
dancing and singing
your heart’s longing to the world.
In this you will find love and respect.

To find yourself, look no further than the universe folded within you.
In that vastness lays all that you potentially possess.
Wrap yourself in the beauty, the splendor that is you.

Teach On, Ms. Carr,Teach On

Teach On
through
the nodding heads
the talkative mouths
the non-hearing ears,
for amongst them are the many
who watch your every move
who offer their opinions constructively
who hear your every word.

Teach On
as if your life
their lives
our future depends upon it,
for in truth,
the lives of all are affected
by your choice to teach.

Teach On
through the meager salary
the long days
the work that goes unappreciated
and overlooked.

Teach On
for the act of educating is
doing God’s work.
In that action there is love.
Teach with love
so that love is what you teach.

Teach On
Knowing in your lessons
lays a piece of knowledge that
can change the fortunes of many.
Truly, only one other group of people
can speak of such a power and burden,
parents.

Teach On
with the knowledge that
you are making your mark on history.
