She Lost Herself
She lost herself somewhere
between hello and rejection.
Patterns played out with
comfortable certainty
She isn't sure how to feel
Everything and nothing was different
Her poetry dripped with confusion
Words painfully pulled
from the images lodged
in her mind.
He watched her create her pain
He was silent when she said
she loved him
she missed him
she thought of him
He watched and waited
until she understood
She lost herself somewhere
between hello and rejection.

ouch.
that hurts--to read, to imagine.
I'm visualizing a situation: the feelings one would feel--after sharing--with someone just staring back at you, unblinking, unresponsive.
